I was born and raised in China, and I then moved to Hungary just 5 years ago after I finished high school. At the beginning of my new life in a foreign country, it was pretty scary; I didn’t know what the future had in store for me. One thing I did know is that if I kept myself busy and studied hard I would give myself more options in life and be able to explore different avenues before deciding on my future career path. In the past few years, I settled into my new country and found work as a store manager, a stock manager and a marketer in a wholesale company. These working experiences helped me to improve my Hungarian and English language skills and gave me a valuable insight into the business world. However, I felt that in order to grow and expand on my knowledge at a faster rate, I would need to take some time to focus on higher education, so I decided to leave my job in order to develop myself more at ELTE University and the business development classes particularly caught my attention, and I started to realize that this is where I could see my future going.
Working in a remote team has always been a dream of mine, but I never in a million years thought that I could work in a full remote-based company so soon in my career, so I was delighted to be given the opportunity with AbilityMatrix. To be a part of a highly driven team that performs and communicates so well across the globe feels very special.
I still remember while I was busy searching for an internship that suddenly a particular post caught my eye: ‘‘‘AbilityMatrix is looking for Junior Business Development Interns!’’ I did my research and got a feel for the culture and I knew right away that this was a company that I would love to work with, and then discovering my role would be fully remote, it felt like a dream opportunity and now, the dream has come true. I was just over the moon when I was informed that I was part of the team and I haven't stopped smiling since!
I am truly grateful to have met so many helpful colleagues since I joined the team, they have all been so incredibly supportive and friendly, and they have gone above and beyond to help me settle in. Although I haven’t been working here that long, I have already been working on many meaningful projects, and it feels great to be given that trust to make a real difference so early on. Furthermore, I really love working here because the variety of work makes every day feel fresh, and I am always met with new and interesting challenges.
After one month of working remotely, I can see that it has its own unique challenges, but once you get used to it, you really start to see the benefits. Personally, it allows me to feel more comfortable and focused on my work as you waste no time commuting to and from work; I think it really allows you to perform at your best as long as you still have that communication, feedback and input from your team who are just a call, message or email away. Being able to see how much the team has achieved in the short time I have been here is another great motivator. I feel really connected to the projects that I’m working on and knowing that I have a team of like-minded and equally driven co-workers alongside me makes the work and lifestyle of remote work feel very rewarding.
Besides my work and studies, I do love to travel as much as I can, and in my short time here in Europe I have already travelled to more than 40 cities in various different EU countries. I’ve seen places that I never thought I would get to see while I was back home in China and I really love interacting with new people from different backgrounds to get to know their cultures, taking pictures as I go and exploring different wonderful new cuisines along the way. My dream is to hopefully visit at least one destination in each country across the globe in my lifetime and to be able to do that while expanding my Business Development career in AbilityMatrix would be fantastic!
